Our Standards
Every calculator on FinCalc Hub follows a strict accuracy and quality process. Here's how we work.
Data Sources
We use only official, publicly available data from recognized authorities:
- Federal tax rates and brackets: IRS Revenue Procedures (e.g., Rev. Proc. 2025-XX)
- State tax rates: Individual state Departments of Revenue
- Interest rates: Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED)
- Mortgage rates: Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Market Survey (PMMS)
- Inflation data: Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index (CPI-U)
- Retirement contribution limits: IRS annual Notices
We never use unverified third-party data, user-submitted information, or unofficial sources.
Verification Process
- Formula review: Each calculator's mathematical formula is documented and reviewed against textbook financial mathematics.
- Automated testing: Every calculation function has unit tests that compare results against known correct values.
- Cross-verification: We check our results against established calculators (bankrate.com, calculator.net) to catch discrepancies.
- Edge case testing: We test boundary conditions — zero values, extreme inputs, and unusual combinations.
Update Schedule
- Federal tax rates: Updated within 48 hours of IRS announcement (typically November)
- Mortgage rates: Updated weekly via automated pipeline
- Inflation data (CPI): Updated monthly after BLS release
- Retirement limits: Updated within 48 hours of IRS Notice (typically October-November)
Corrections
If you find an error in any of our calculators, please report it. We take accuracy seriously and will investigate and correct any confirmed issues promptly.
When we correct a calculation error, we note the correction and updated date on the affected page.
